STCW Update – Basic Safety Training Course (U-BSTC)
The STCW Refresher (Update) Basic Safety Training Course (U-BSTC) must be completed by seafarers every five years and provides vital safety-at-sea refresher training. For any seafarers revalidating their UK Certificate of Competency after January 1, 2017, documentary evidence of completing a U-BSTC within the last five years must be provided.
Please note: First Aid is not included in the compulsory Refresher (Update) training. However, the STCW Elementary First Aid certificate remains the basic qualification required for all seafarers. It is strongly recommended to renew this certification every five years, as it may be required by certain vessels or employers.
If you are using your STCW Elementary First Aid certificate to authorise you to skipper small vessels under an RYA Commercial Endorsement or as part of an instructor qualification, you must renew your STCW First Aid certificate every five years.

STCW Update - Personal Survival Techniques (U-PST)
1 dayClassroom & PracticalSeafarers must complete the STCW Refresher (Update) Personal Survival Techniques course (U-PST) every five years to maintain proficiency under the STCW 2010 Manila Amendments (STCW Section A-VI/1 & table A-VI/1-1). For any seafarers revalidating their UK Certificate of Competency after January 1, 2017, documentary evidence of completing a U-PST within the last five years must be provided.View course -
STCW Update - Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (U-FPFF)
1 dayPracticalThis is a practical one day fire course involving use of breathing apparatus, hoses, nozzles and extinguishers. The student has to demonstrate they are able to maintain the required standard of competence in fire prevention and fire fighting.View course -
STCW Elementary First Aid (EFA)
1 dayClassroomPart of the minimum basic safety training for seafarers, the STCW Elementary First Aid course (EFA) teaches students how to correctly and safely respond to medical emergencies and accidents on board a vessel. Run over one-day, the course teaches a range of basic first aid and life-saving skills in both theoretical and practical hands-on sessions. With assessments carried out during the day, this course meets the minimum requirement for familiarisation and basic safety training for seafarers who, on completion, will receive a certification which is valid for 5 years.View course
